You
have a bunch of lovely, fluffy Pygora goats. Now what? If you’d
like to learn how to evaluate your raw fleeces and breed for
improvement, this workshop is for you! We’ll talk about the
unique qualities of Pygora fleeces, basic Pygora genetics, colors
and patterns of Pygoras, discuss how best to shear a Pygora, which
parts are worth saving for spinning, how to skirt a fleece,
alternate uses for ‘less than perfect’ parts of a fleece, how
to deal with things like dandruff and lice, and how to evaluate a
Pygora fleece. There will be time for lots of questions and
answers. Bring a raw Pygora fleece or two if you have them in a
box. If possible, also bring a photo of the goat that produced
that fleece.
Lisa
Roskopf has raised Pygora goats at Hawks Mountain Ranch for 19
years. She is an experienced carder, felter, spinner and dyer of
Pygora fiber. Lisa has judged several county fairs in
Washington
and
Oregon
. Last year, she judged at the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival and
the Pygora fleece show at the Michigan Fiber Festival. For many
years she hosted the “Fiber Frenzy” winter show for Pygoras.
She is one of the original organizers for the Oregon Flock and
Fiber Festival. Lisa was a member of the judges’ committee for
the Pygora Breeders Association and helped write the judge’s
training booklet that is used to qualify all PBA sanctioned
judges. She currently is active in 4H with fiber animals and fiber
arts and has been a leader and advisor for several years. She has
provided showmanship training and help to young people interested
in fiber goats.
